Secondary Education for Adult People means an adaptation of Secondary studies that is specially designed for adults.

In our school, ESPA is partly given in the classroom where students attend the center two evenings a week from 18:00 to 22:05. The rest of the hours are taught via distance learning: students work at home with an internet-connected computer and complete assignments given by the teacher virtually.

Requirements:

For entrance into ESPA it is necessary to be 18 years old, or in exceptional situations, 16 (for example, a high achievement athlete, a worker, a disabled person, …). In addition, these academic requirements are demanded:

First cycle. Level I.

  • Have completed the Basic Education Plan (or a similar one)
  • Have studied (but not completed) 3º ESO or 2º ESO level.
  • Have passed an entrance exam.

Second cycle. Level II.

  • School Graduate Degree.
  • Have passed 2º ESO or first level of ESPA.
  • Have passed an entrance exam.

The Entrance exam takes place in June and in September, which allows the solicitor enough time to assign the student a correct level.

This program is structured in areas (which include a group of subjects). Every area is arranged in three Modules, which coincide with the quarters. When a student has passed a module, he or she moves on to the next without having to study any courses in the previous one.

Methodology

According to the order on August 10th, 2007, which regulated Secondary Education for Adult People, in the article 16 it is stated:

This mode of education will be carried out by means of the combination of a lesson at school and other activities to control the student, which will not be at school.

These activities will be carried out, mainly, by means of the use of informatics and communication technologies, through a virtual education platform created by the Council of Education.

In the assessment of the learning of a student who attends Secondary Education for Adult People, it will be taken into account the tests, the tasks done by the students and the participation in the forum, or any other activity that appears in the didactic program.

The lessons at school will be in group and they will be mainly dedicated to general questions which will be useful to plan the module and guide the students to get the best results.

Every week there will be eight lessons at school, that will last one hour each one and they will be distributed from Monday to Friday to get the highest attendance of the students. This will be the distribution:

  • Scientific and Technological Area: 3 lessons
  • Communication Area: 3 lessons
  • Social Area: 2 lessons

Assessment Criteria:

  • Exams: 50% (minimum 3 to pass the module)
  • Tasks: 40%
  • Work and attendance: 10%
